Speaker/Workshop Details:
SARAH MCCLOUGHRY | ANRAH | STANDING OUT FROM THE CROWD
– Sarah McCloughry is Director of Anrah Development Ltd, providing training programmes for Oxford’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering.
– Sarah helps students to increase confidence, performance and engagement at conferences and interview.
– Her training provides solution to increase chances of success of WINNING the most favourable JOBS in industry and in the highly competitive academic arena.
HELEN MEESE | IMECHE | OVERCOMING EXPECTATIONS
– Engineering in the UK employs 2.3 million people, of which only 6.7% are female. UK universities produce 19,000 female STEM graduates each year, but only 15% choose to study engineering. Less than 1 in 10 professional engineers and 1 in 20 apprentice engineers are female.
– Women working within male-dominated professions dislike being associated with positive discrimination, as they would rather be selected on the basis of individual ability.
– Companies that can nurture and look after their talent make better use of their employees’ enthusiasm to deliver an improved service to their customers. So how do we – the 6.7% – overcome these barriers?
– Dr Helen Meese will present her thoughts on the issues facing women engineers today and the barriers still remaining, drawing on her own personal experiences and views of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in an enthusiastic and inspirational talk.
OXFORD 3D PRINTING SOCIETY | BEGINNER 3D PRINTING WORKSHOP – 3D MODELLING FOR ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY
– The workshop will kick-off with a brief introduction of the Ox3DP, the UK’s first student-led 3D printing society.
– Followed by a practical session that focuses on teaching basic Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills for 3D printing using a simple free software called 123D (http://www.123dapp.com/design-alt).
– The participants will have the opportunity to design their own simple models for 3D printing.
– A selection of top designs will be printed for free.
