In your first year of a three year course or second year of a four year course? Don’t know where to start with your career? Then come along to our event: What to do in your first and second year at Oxford to avoid unemployment to learn about options available and how to best position yourself for your future career.

In association with our sponsors Citi we will help give advice about the skills need to succeed in the world of finance and take you through the key steps to secure insight programs that set you up for future internships. No prior experience is required and we will walk through the basics of all key city industries and the opportunities available. Especially as first and seconds years at Oxford, the possibilities open to you can be overwhelming, and we aim to make clear how you can get involved in finance and put yourself ahead of the game and best position yourself to get offers.

You have probably heard a lot about different areas of the City in the news, whether it’s investment banking, consulting, professional services or asset management, private equity, venture capital and hedge funds. You may even have a vague idea that you want to work in one of these areas. They are all very different but at the same time are very high paying, challenging and fast paced industries. But how well do you really understand the City? Do you want to work in equities or corporate finance? Economic or Management Consultant? Will the buy-side or sell-side be right for you? Venture Capital or Private Equity? Know your DCF from your EBITDA? And your spreads from your spots?

It can all be a bit overwhelming, especially if you don’t know where to start. But that’s where we can help! This event will give you an overview of everything you need to know about the City: from the ins and outs of the sectors, to the different roles. You will gain a better understanding of how it all fits in together. You will hear advice what you should be doing whilst at Oxford to get a good job in the City from people who’ve recently gone through the process. They will let you know about spring weeks, internships and other programs and initiatives that can really help you get into these very competitive programmes. Each year it is getting more and more competitive and this is an event that will really help you to get your foot into the door of some of the world’s largest firms and is not one to miss. DON’T MISS OUT!

Not only will we cover the finance industry, how it works and fits together but also what spring programmes and summer internships entail, the application processes and most importantly, how you can ensure that your application is successful, with advice on CVs, cover letters, tests and interviews.

There will be former intern representatives as part of a panel. There will be an opportunity for questions and there will be lots of free food and drink. This is not one to miss! 19:30 in Lecture Room 11 of Brasenose College on Thursday 30th October- be there!

This event will be highly useful and an extremely useful insight into the City and how to launch your career. Many have gone on from prior events to achieve highly competitive internship offers, and start fantastic careers in the city. The Oxford Guild is looking for talented first year and second year students to apply their skills to join committee- so those that attend the event can have the chance to be FAST- TRACKED for committee positions.

We look forward to seeing you there!
