On Monday 29th October BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, is holding an extremely valuable event with directors at Jesus College’s Habbukuk Room from 7pm. The event will be about the Financial Markets Advisory Group which provides counsel to senior executives in banks, insurance companies, mortgage companies and other financial institutions on their most difficult—and interesting—capital market issues. Our practice centers on financial strategy, valuation of illiquid portfolios and riskmanagement. The advisory practice is rooted in BlackRock’s culture of objective, fiduciary problem solving for clients, and is a strategic priority for the firm. BlackRock’s Financial Markets Advisory (“FMA”) group undertakes a variety of engagements including (i) valuation and risk assessment, (ii) advisory services to financial & official institutions and (iii) portfolio workout and disposition. FMA applies a consultative approach – every assignment is unique to the specific issues of the client, and is therefore highly customized. Rooted in BlackRock’s culture of objective problem-solving, the advisory practice is among the highest strategic priorities at the Firm.
 
The FMA group is comprised of Advisors and Portfolio Managers and combines the asset expertise of an investment bank with the strategic mindset and creative problem solving of a financial consultancy. It advises senior executives at financial institutions and government entities on their most difficult – and most interesting – capital markets issues. Some of our notable assignments include:
 
·         Being selected by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to manage $80 billion in assets related to the rescue operations for Bear Stearns and AIG.
·         Performing diagnostic exercises on the Greek and Irish banking sector, with results feeding into critical decisions for the banks, the sovereigns, and the investment community.
·         Advising one of the world’s largest banks on the disposition of a business unit, and liaising with prominent private equity firms involved in the M&A process
·         Advising a European central bank and regulator with respect to domestic banks’ exposure to loans in Emerging Markets
